And…My Meno Weight Loss Journey Begins

Written By: JoJoisms - Apr• 04•17

So back in October of 2016, I had my total hysterectomy and shortly thereafter I began putting on weight. More importantly, I began exercising, working out, dieting, watching my weight…whatever you want to call it. And so my Meno Weight Loss Journey began.

So I’m about thirty pounds overweight at this point, which on a small framed 5′ nuthin’ woman with a toddler sized head and children’s sized hands and feet is a LOT!  Several years ago, I stopped eating carbs and found that within a few weeks, I was losing waaaaay too much weight and had to slow that puppy down!  Post Meno, I’ve cut down on carbs/sugar AND started exercising and noticed that within two weeks, I had pulled two muscles and GAINED a pound or two!

We decided to buy a used treadmill from a cute little lady across town who apparently only used it on Sundays before church.  She bought it used from someone else on Craig’s List a year prior and it was now several years old.  About a week after we brought it into the house, it quit, but I’m still 30lbs overweight so I can’t!  Now we own a 900 lb paper weight!

Here in Indiana, it’s either too cold, too humid, snowing, raining, or Tornado Season which makes it difficult to get out and walk around the neighborhood even two days in a row.  Necessity is the mother of invention and creativity is its cousin. So I invent the JoJo Walk Around House Exercise Program.  It consists of ten laps around the inside of the house. It starts off by the stairs through the perimeter of the office, around the dining room table, down the hall through my bedroom door, to the master bath, walk in closet, around the master bedroom, through the kitchen, around the kitchen table, around the coffee table in the family room and up and down the stairs.

I walk quickly to get my heart rate up and to avoid lifting weights which, apparently somehow without my noticing at the time, caused the muscle pulls and body aches.  If anyone peers in through my perimeter windows they would probably question my sanity.  I, too, am beginning to question my sanity because I’M STILL GAINING!

People from my planet apparently don’t lose weight this way.  I’ll have to phone home and ask ET what to do next.  Film at 11!

So how’s by you?  What exercise program have you found works for YOU? Please share. I’m sure I’m not the only one from Planet Meno.  We could all use a good idea.

Yeah, you’re a little ahead of me in the game, but I’m feeling this way. I’d hate to see what I would look like if I weren’t cutting out most of the junk and trying to exercise more!

I share your weather problems JoJo. I moved to The Oregon Coast 7 years ago from what I thought were terrible weather conditions. 💯 to 118 in the extreme in the summer. Very dry area. Which I didn’t know at the time was truly a blessing! So, in my great wisdom, I moved to The Coast to get away from the heat.

Little did I know that the weather here would kill me year round because of the humidity. Now, you might say, ” Well stay in the house then, or move.” I wish staying in the house would get me away from the terrible humidity here. It’s 70 – 80 percent average humidity. But i live in a place where apparently they don’t believe in air conditioning!! 90 percent of the homes here get by on opening their windows to cool off. Which we do have to do. But even with the windows closed you can’t keep the humidity out. We’re thinking about getting a dehumidifier and air conditioner which will of course help. The man who will install it says we can expect to get the humidity in here down to around 30 percent!! 😲 Can you believe it!! Look what you’ve gone and done JoJo! You’ve got me on a roll! As to moving out of the area, well I’m in the exact same position as I was in Redding, CA. My husband’s job made moving not an option for 15 years. When we moved here, he got another great job and now it’s keeping me here in misery! My choice to move here! Don’t ever move some place without a thorough investigation of how it will effect your life especially your health.

As to your article JoJo, again it was very good but it did bring to mind my dilemma which is ever before me, day in and day out! I’m doing my best to survive but many times it is just survival. I do thank my God everyday for all the many blessings I have. I have a husband. I have a loving husband who is so very understanding of my health problems. I must tell you that that is not easy to come by. My husband does have a great job, praise God! So many people out of work. So many who do have jobs, don’t have good jobs. I have very many blessings that I won’t bore you with but I do try to stay on the positive side of things especially in light of the many blessings God has provided me with. I am extremely grateful for running into my new chronic pain friends including you JoJo! I’m so very grateful for you! Thank you for your JoJoisms. May God bless you for blessing us with your words of wisdom.

I don’t have a clue. I’ve gained 40 lbs over the last year, and due to moving downstairs (further from food and climbing to get it) I’ve managed to lose that 40 but, the rest of my butt and bat wings aren’t budging. I’ve never been skinny, and I asked God once to make me tall and thin and attractive before I die… He’s hesitating… So I must not be going to die any time soon.

Kuddos for losing the weight, Jan!! So glad you’re not going anywhere any time soon!
